Gliadin is part of the gluten protein found in wheat (similar proteins are found in rye, barley, and oats). Anti-Gliadin Antibody is an autoantibody against the gliadin portion. It is a marker for celiac disease – assayed in parallel to the anti-endomysium, anti-transglutaminase and anti-reticulin antibody tests. This test is useful for deciding whether or not a jejunal biopsy is warranted. The Gliadin antibodies of the IgA class have a sensitivity and specificity of 70-100% for predicting Celiac Disease. Other related tests: Gliadin IgG, Reticulin IgA & IgG, and Endomysial Antibodies
